Maris warned me in one of our early phone calls that her wedding was going to be out of the ordinary. "I'm not going to carry a bouquet or have bridesmaids or any of that." (I'm paraphrasing) What I understand from our mutual friend Meghan is that the whole planning process was like this. When it came to their wedding, Maris and Ryan weren't copying anyone. Maris wasn't looking for advice. Maris just knew. That tea-length polka-dot dress? I think we all understood it was never going to be any other dress. Same thing With Ryan's Navy-and-Pink suit. A bold choice that he quite plainly pulled off.
Out of the ordinary is one way to describe the images you'll be treated to below. Spectacular, stunning, and magnificent would all work too. As would outrageously adorable. The ceremony and reception were both held in Maris's parents' incredible backyard. Photos were at the old Santa Barbara Mission and Rose Garden. Countless awesome people helped, with special props due to Maris's aptly-named mother Joy, and her best friend Meghan, whose wedding I had the privilege to shoot last year in Denver, and who is one of the most naturally gifted organizers I've ever met. (Meghan is also starting her own freelance wedding planning operation, so stay tuned for details about that).
Please enjoy the photos below shot by both Will and I. We loved our time in Santa Barbara. Thanks again Maris and Ryan!
